More Jessie Willcox Smith

I love pictures of mothers reading to their children.

Fairy Tales

I wonder if she's reading this fairy tale?

Snow White and Rose Red, 1911

Or Little Red Riding Hood? I hope the children aren't scared by the wolf.

Little Red Riding Hood, 1911

This little girl has Mother trained right.

As does this little tyke.

It looks like Mum is not too tired to play checkers.

So sweet.

In the Garden

The sales record for a Smith work is $310,700 for this 1905 illustration from "A Child's Garden of Verses."

I wonder how Ms. Smith would have illustrated Giraffe #306?
