Country of the Week ~ България

That would be Bulgaria, written in the Bulgarian Alphabet. Bulgarians were the first to use the Cyrillic alphabet, from which the Bulgarian Alphabet developed. Just for fun, try translating this post into Bulgarian.

When Bulgaria joined the European Union on January 1, 2007, Cyrillic became the third official alphabet of the EU.

Could there be any more exciting an image to introduce us to Bulgaria than this one of the Black Sea at Vramos Bay?

From the sea, we'll make our way to Sofia Plain. I see a dog in the clouds, holding up his many paws. Or maybe a mother duck, with her adoring ducklings gathered round. What do you see?

From Sofia Plain let's make our way to Grass Lake, one of the Smolyan Lakes in southern Bulgaria. Such a beautiful, refreshing green.

But it's Autumn, and since we're already in southern Bulgaria, let's skip on over to the Rhodope mountains. What an amazing reflection shot.

Isn't this an interesting photo? It was taken at the Romanian Queen Castle in Balchik, a seaside resort on the Black Sea.

This is the town center.

And this is at the Balchik Botanical Garden. Maybe a resort vacation will be in my future. Although a palace vacation would also be lovely, especially if I could stay at Euxinograd Palace.

It looks like Giraffe #130 has chosen a resort vacation and brought a friend. This comes from a set of stationery. I wonder what they'll write home about.
