Do Adventures Lead to Love?

I've just finished listening to two children's books with exciting adventures.

Rodzina, by Karen Cushman, is the story of a 12-year-old orphan who was transported on a train with many other orphans in an effort to find them families and new homes.

The Orphan Train was begun in 1854 by philanthropist Charles Loring Brace. The trains ran until 1929, relocating about 250,000 children who were orphaned, abandoned or homeless. The Orphan Trains weren't without problems and controversy. Some children became little more than indentured servants. But others found adoptive families.

Rodzina is a scared young girl who has lost her family and just wants someone to love her. Throughout her journey on the train she develops strength and learns some important lessons.

I fell in love with her and hoped that she would end up getting the family she desired. Read this wonderful book to discover just what happened to Rodzina.

The second book I listened to was The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. Edward was a china rabbit loved by a little girl. But Edward was self centered and cared only for himself.

Edward becomes separated from his little girl and it is during the journeys he has that Edward learns what love is.

During one of his adventures he is even used to scare away crows!

Since I listened to the audiobook I didn't get a chance to see the pictures. I will be visiting my library tomorrow to check out the book so I can rectify that.
